Psychological Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety can affect your mood and emotions in some predictable ways. However because your...

Circumstances

Coping skills

...are different than other people's , you may have different psychological symptoms of anxiety than your neighbour, friend, parent, child or "Aunt Bertha".

There are a few psychological characterisitcs of anxiety that are very common. They are not exactly the same for everyone and even if you have a severe anxiety disorder, you may not experience every symptom.

Feelings of Dread, Despair and Apprehension
These feelings are classic anxiety symptoms. Almost everyone who is preparing to speak in public will feel some worry, dread or apprehension. Public speaking is one of those activities that most of us will be nervous about, sometimes even terrified, to perform.

What if you are not getting ready to speak in public?

What if you wake up in the morning anticipating a normal day at work, but feel dread, despair or worry even without a reason? This is anxiety. What most people would consider a "normal" daily acticity, you may be anxious to the point of wanting to stay in bed all day. If this sounds like you, you may have an anxiety disorder.

Fear that Something Bad Will Happen

Feeling out of control of your actions
People with anxiety will often say things like:

"I couldn't stop myself from..."

"I wasn't able to..."

"I felt like someone else was making me..."

This is known as depersonalization. Depersonalization describes a strange feeling whereby you feel as if you are not part of what is going on around you. You are reduced to an observer and view things as if from a bird's eye view. Sometimes these feelings can drive you into an elusive world and you could question your sanity.

Feeling Irritable
It is not surprising that if you suffer with anxiety you would be irritable or easily angered. Your brain is having sensory overload. Your body is in a near constant state of fight or flight. Any extra input from your spouse, child, friend or whoever can make you angry. You are already struggling to get through you day. Anything can be too much.

Inability to Concentrate
This symptom of anxiety can be very frustating. You have anxiey; you want to learn how to prevent your anxiety; but you cannot concentrate long enough to read the book, article or ebook that could help you. You would like to attend a weekend seminar with your spouse on how to communicate with your spouse but you just can't pay attention for more than a few minutes. It is very common for someone struggling with anxiety to have trouble focusing on a task for very long or concentrate. Anxiety can also cause memory loss.

Restlessness
While in a state of anxiety you can feel like you are unable to "calm down". You want to feel peace and quiet but your brain won't let you. Another term for restlessness is agitation. Agitation is a state of increased arousal, being "stirred up" or excited. It can come on fast or slow and last for minutes, weeks or even months. Restlessness will be increased as stress is increased and can also be exagerated by pain.

Fear that something very bad will happen
One of the common themes for people suffering from anxiety is this fear that something terrible is going to happen.

Feeling "tense" or "jumpy"

*Feeling Wrong and StrangeFEELING WRONG AND STRANGE
First and foremost a person suffering from anxiety experiences a feeling of being foreign, different or simply out of place. This feeling could affect the entire body or part of the body such as the hand, the arm, a finger or any other portion of the body thereof. This symptom is normally temporary but recurrent.

*VERY SHORT MEMORY AND IMPAIRED CONCENTRATION
The once attentive person ends up with a questionable memory and concentration ability. Usually the tasks that one ordinarily used to do at ease tend to be extremely difficult and simple things that one used to grasp quickly and easily tend to be abnormally so had and easily forgettable. People experiencing the following forgetfulness psychological symptoms of anxiety may as well be diagnosed with anxiety: forgetting basic phone numbers, forgetting names or even forgetting what one previously ate.

*STUCK THOGUHTS AND MENTAL IMAGES
No matter how many things one does, it seems too hard to get over them as it should be the case. In case the affected person wants to relax and have undistracted thoughts, he tends to find his thoughts shifting backwards and replaying unwanted thoughts and scenes. These thoughts can sometimes be so traumatizing that they can be termed as a hamster which runs squeakily on ones background. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, the worse it tends to get.

*LEARNING IMPAIRMENT
Yet another of the common psychological symptoms of anxiety, this condition is associated with extreme learning difficulties such that one can hardly recall what he learnt within a short run period. In case you were introduced to a new concept, it tends to get easily erased from your mind within a short time no matter how hard you try to hold on it.

Labdien. Es šeit jauniņā. Ciešu no diezgan smagas VD. Prieks, ka ir vieta, kur dalīties pārdomās un palasīt citu skatījumu. Ticu, ka visi, kas šeit reģistrējušies izārstēsies.

Re: Visi VD simptomi (gan fiziskie, gan psiholoģiskie)!

13

Re: Visi VD simptomi (gan fiziskie, gan psiholoģiskie)!

Hmm...man nav bijis nekad plausu karsonis, ir bijusi bronhiti, kkas lidzigs astmai, bet plausonis nee. Izklausas jau nereali, vrb tai sievietei vnk sagadisanas tada bija.

14

Re: Visi VD simptomi (gan fiziskie, gan psiholoģiskie)!

simucis18
Nu iespējams, ka sagadīšanās, bet to jautāja ārsts nevis viņa pati to izdomāja. Kad viņa pastāstīja uzreiz atcerējos savus 2 plaušu karsoņus.
